Sensory Name Letters
Practice the letters in your name with these engaging, wooden sensory trays.
Use the letters in a sensory tray for fine motor practice and play. Children can trace the letters with their fingers, add materials (like rice) to the insides and get familiar with the shapes of the letters in their name. Add the letter inserts to practice letter matching! See examples of how the letters set into the sensory trays in the photos.
Playing is the best way for children to learn. While these letters aren't intended for a specific type of instruction, playing will stimulate thoughts and curiosity and will help build connections. At first these letters may just be an opportunity to become familiar with the letters in their name. As your child grows, letters can be used to practice spelling their name in order!
Skills practiced while playing:
Fine motor skills: adding materials to the letter like sand or rice, tracing the letters with their fingers, placing the inserts into the tray
Letter recognition: seeing, tracing, filling and holding the shape of a letter helps children make connections
Letter matching: inserting the letters into the sensory trays
Letter order: putting the letters in order to spell a word, ie their name
Name recognition: seeing the letters in order to spell their name
Phonetic sounds of letters: J is the first letter in James. Do you hear the /j/ in James?
Each letter ranges from 3-4 inches in height. You can choose a traditional spelling (James), uppercase (JAMES), or lowercase (james). See examples of each letter in the photos.
